RUN Leicester half marathon

The Run Leicester Half is our flagship event and will see thousands of runners take on the 13.1 mile distance. With roads closed for the duration of the event and plenty of entertainment to keep your legs moving, runners will have Leicester’s city streets all to themselves. Our much-loved half marathon route will start and finish at Victoria Park, heading through the city and out along Leicester’s golden mile, before looping back in via Watermead Park and Abbey Park, after which we take in more of the city iconic landmarks before the final push up the idyllic New Walk all the way to the finish line.

Who can enter?

The Run Leicester Half is open to anyone and everyone over the age of 17. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or have just started running this year and are contemplating your first ever half marathon Run Leicester is definitely for you. Nothing beats the atmosphere of a big city centre event and we’ll keep you going all the way with entertainment to keep you moving ever closer to that finish line. The route is for the most part relatively flat, with the exception of one short hill just before the 8 mile mark in Birstall, and then the final mile up New Walk where the adrenaline will kick in and you will earn that finisher’s medal just around the corner.

What is the route?

The race arena and both the start and finish are all situated in Victoria Park, just outside the city centre. After an initial downhill run for the first mile, we run straight through the city centre and head out on miles 2-6 which are all relatively flat and follow Leicester’s Golden Mile all the way to the top end of Watermead Park. From there we had back through the park, still relatively flat until you get to a short uphill and downhill around mile 8. From there you re-enter the city and follow nice paths roughly along the course of the canal down through Abbey Park before heading back into the city centre. Miles 9-12 are relatively flat as well and we run through the Highcross and straight down High Street before eventually turning up the idyllic New Walk which is your final hill to push through all the way to the finish back at Victoria Park.
